Dr Tasos Varoudis - Associate Professor in Architecture and Machine Intelligence
Professor Tasos Varoudis (Dipl.-Ing MArch MSc(Eng CS) PhD ARB TEE-TCG) is a qualified architect and computing engineer with research focusing on architecture, machine intelligence and spatial computation. Since 2011 he drives the spatial computation and machine intelligence research for the Space Syntax Laboratory at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) where he is developing new methodological and computational innovations combining spatial data-driven models with machine learning and agent-based models. He leads ‘depthmapX’ spatial network analysis software that has attracted more than 150k downloads since its open-source release in 2012.
He co-created and lead the Machine Learning Urbanism Research Cluster 14 (RC14) for the MArch Urban Design and the Spatial Analytics and Computation at the MSc in Spatial Design: Architecture and Cities. His research interests are driven by the concept of ‘spatial dynamics’, the interaction between architectural space and machine intelligence, and are now under the umbrella of the Machine Intelligence Lab. https://www.machineintelligencelab.org
Vassilis Papalexopoulos - Lecturer and Skills Tutor
Vassilis graduated from the School of Architecture at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2013. He then pursued an MSc in Adaptive Architecture and Computation at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Vassilis gained experience working as a Design Systems Analyst at Foster + Partners, specializing in VR/AR technologies. Currently, he serves as a Senior Associate at Bryden Wood, where he leads initiatives in interoperability and advanced visualization, utilizing programming languages like C# and JavaScript. In addition, he conducts research on audio visualization using game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.

Lian Lei - Researcher and PhD Candidate
Lian Lei studied Urban Planning and Design in Wuhan, China, and Urban Regeneration in London, UK. Before starting her doctoral research at Space Syntax Laboratory, BSA, UCL, she has worked in Beijing in both academic and planning industry for five years. Lian’s research focuses on the morphological features of architectural and urban space across scales. She is interested in new methodology and analytical approach to explore how people interact with the built environment physically and culturally, and interdisciplinary design responses to the challenges of future cities.
